New Telcordia EMC and NEBS Documents
Telcordia (Piscataway, NJ) has released new documents addressing EMC and NEBS requirements in June and July of this year, respectively.
Issue 4 of GR-1089, “Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electrical Safety—Generic Criteria for Network Telecommunications Equipment,” contains new criteria, structural revisions, and clarifications in test procedures. Included are new criteria for wireless systems and a section on dc power ports of telecommunications load equipment. The document provides more than 70 generic requirements. It clarifies existing tests and includes new test procedures. Safe voltage levels for intentionally applied sources, electrochemical corrosion effects, and grounding are discussed. The system-level generic criteria for EMC presented in GR-1089 can help avoid equipment damage and malfunction because of lightning, 60-Hz commercial power fault conditions, ESD, EMI, etc.
Issue 2 of the “Roadmap to NEBS” document contains a list of all relevant generic requirements, special reports, and technical reference documents published for NEBS technology. Abstracts are presented for each document. An abridged table of contents for each document provides a snapshot of all its contents, and an index of topics enables users to search either by topic or document. An overview of the NEBS program and a NEBS subject index are also included. Updated informationon the new issue of GR-1089 is included.
