Battery Charger
A
linear battery charger with integrated constant temperature regulation
charges both lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride batteries and
regulates output voltage in a no-battery condition. The MAX1501
minimizes charge time, offers high reliability, and accepts regulated
or unregulated wall adapters with 4.5- to 13-V outputs. Proprietary
thermal regulation automatically adjusts the charging current to
control power dissipation when input voltage exceeds 6.5 V, and
to limit PCB temperature during constant-current, constant-voltage
charging. The thermally enhanced 16-pin, 5 X 5-mm package allows
charge current up to 1.4 A, which the user can program. Other features
include a charge-current monitor, status indicators, and automatic
restart when voltage falls below 4 V. Maxim Integrated Products,

Accelerometer
Steady-state
and low-frequency, low-level accelerations can be measured in aerospace
and factory environments where EMI and RFI are a concern by means
of an accelerometer designed to filter and shield against such interference.
The Model 7293A Microtron accelerometer is based on anisotropically
etched variable-capacitance microsensors that can withstand shock
up to 10,000 g and high acceleration loads. Gas damping of the sensors
results in very small thermally induced changes in frequency response.
The instrument operates at 9.5 to 18.0 V dc and provides a high-level,
low-impedance ±2-V differential output that is decoupled
at a dc bias of about 3.6 V dc. Endevco, San Juan

Keypad Multiplexer
A
compact complementary metal oxide semiconductor multiplexer for
keypad switches in multifunction wireless handsets and other portable
electronics enables device keys or joystick or roller pads to perform
dual functions. The 3-mm-square, 16-lead CM2500-05QF multiplexer
is offered as a space-saving substitute for a 5-Schottky-diode package.
It provides a low voltage drop of less than 10 mV from input to
output on each channel, allowing it to be used in applications where
supplies operate at 1.5-2.7 V; unlike Schottky-diode-based devices,
this multiplexer will not cause high signals to be pulled low inadvertently
when used with low-core-voltage chipsets. Separate outputs facilitate
connection to different sections of the keypad circuit for design
and PCB routing flexibility. California Micro Devices,
